A Young Man and His Father Both Jailed For Sex Crimes

sex crimes
Unrelated charges for sex crimes had both a boy and his father in a Russell County court this week.
The man, Timothy Edward Daugherty, appeared with his son, Timothy Edward Daugherty Jr., who were both given sentences for their offenses by George Greene, a Russell County Circuit Court Judge.
The son, who is 19 years old, will be spending 5 years in jail for sexually abusing a young boy in the first degree, and for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in the second degree, according to Assistant District Attorney Max Smith.
The father, who is 41 years old, received a sentence of ninety days in prison followed by 2 years of probation for not complying with a court order to register as a sex offender.
"For me, the most important thing is that (the son) is a sex offender and will be for the rest of his life," Smith mentioned.
At the sentencing of Daugherty Jr., Smith read a statement that was made by the young boy he abused.
" 'After you started to molest me, I did not think you were my friend anymore,' " Smith read. " 'Sometimes when I think of you, I scream into my pillow. When and if I ever see you again, I will walk away.' "
Police were informed of the incident when a relative of the boy called the Russell County Sheriff's Department in October of 2006, over a year after it had happened. Another young boy had seen Daugherty Jr. touch the boy inappropriately and contacted the relative about it.
