Crime Prevention Tips For Residents In Canada

crime prevention Just recently, the Community Policing Center in Prince George, BC, Canada ended its routine crime prevention week. Tips were provided to residents of the community in order to properly inform them of how to fight crime in the area.

"The highlight for us was being at the Cougars game (Sunday) and it went over really well. We had Safety Bear there, some giveaways, an information counter, and the Cougars were very pleased to have us there to help them celebrate their family day," mentioned Dianne Sears, one of the coordinators at the Community Policing Center.

Crime prevention week usually brings up issues such as gang violence among youths, investment fraud, senior citizen safety, mortgage fraud, and identity theft.

Sears mentioned that the Community Policing Center also organizes other safety programs like Child Find, DARE, Block Watch, Citizens on Patrol, as well as a few others.

This facility is also a place where one can find Claudette Garcia, a officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Garcia mentioned that the power to fight crime can be found in everyone.

"Pay attention to your surroundings at your home. Also target-harden your home. Make sure you have taken ownership of your yard and buildings and vehicles," she mentioned. "That means have proper lighting, locking your buildings and your cars, keep the yard tidy, make sure that anything broken is fixed, that holes in the fence are taken care of."
