“100 Black Men” Plans To Help Prevent Juvenile Crime By Reaching Out To Youth
In Albany, GA, there is a group of men who have created a community program intended to help get kids on the right track before it's too late. These community leaders feel that the best way to prevent crime is to teach children how to stay out of trouble at a young age. Most kids tend to partake in similar activities which are viewed as being positive such as playing basketball, watching television, and playing video games. These interests are usually what keep children from getting into serious trouble. Unfortunately, there is a small population of children who find negative, harmful interests instead.
The group of community leaders in Georgia is called 100 Black Men, and their goal is to help further the educations of black youths in the U.S., both inside and outside of the classroom.
"What we found in the area of middle schools, we found the kids needed more help because by the time they get to high school, its usually too late," mentioned Jesse Harris, one of the members of 100 Black Men.
The volunteers in this community program have vowed to hold mentoring group sessions at local middle schools once a week. It is always refreshing to see adults in the community making efforts to help the youth, especially when juvenile crime is becoming such a prevalent issue in our society.
