Gun Safety Cannot Be Overlooked

gun safetyUnfortunately, I am surprised to see that many stories keep appearing in regards to firearm accidents that involve children. It is very easy to point the finger at the parents, but we must understand that there are other role models who can help prevent such accidents. Education about guns and other violent weapons should be promoted at all costs.

A couple recent stories involve teenage youths who were victims of accidental gunfire. One event involved a seventeen-year-old girl from Moundsville, WV who was accidentally shot by one of her peers. In another incident, a seventeen-year-old boy from New Cumberland suffered a gunshot wound that was inflicted upon him by his brother.

Stories like these are evidence of the fact that children are not being provided the proper education about weapons and gun safety. Whether or not your household contains firearms is not the issue. It is still important to stress the dangers of guns and their uses to your children, and it must be reinforced in their minds. Parents should not completely rely on school programs and other forms of outside education for this, and it is crucial that they speak with their kids about these issues on a regular basis.
