Racial Hate Crimes - Facts From The U.S. Department of Justice

racial hate crimesThere are various things that separate people in our world, we all know that. Class, race and culture are some of the common barriers, and education can even be considered one. Sometimes, ideas get put into our heads as children and it is up to the individual to sort these ideas out as one grows. Luckily, many individuals are surrounded by positive influences that help them break away from the idea of separation. Unfortunately, there are also a large number of individuals who don't have these good influences.

Racial hate crimes are a serious plague on our society and sometimes it seems like certain people fuel the fire. One way to help fight an issue like this is to first properly educate yourself about the subject, and then work on ways to help change attitudes. The U.S. Department of Justice has a section on their website that explains what hate crime is and it gives plenty examples of how the Community Relations Service has helped handle various hate crimes in recent history.

Interested in Taking Crime Photos?

crime photosThere are so many different skills that can be useful in law enforcement, and being a crime scene photographer is certainly one of them. Although one might assume that taking photos of evidence is as simple as pressing a button on a camera, this is not true at all. Taking crime photos requires skill and discipline, in addition to being an officer of the law.

There is a great website that provides some of the basic information that is needed to be an effective and useful crime scene photographer. For example, taking crime scene photos requires a certain type of emphasis. Knowing how to manually set your camera in order to emphasize various aspects of the crime scene is probably one of the most important things. There are also some important steps that must be taken when submitting the evidence to court.

This website, which is located at http://www.rcmp-learning.org/docs/ecdd1004.htm is a great resource, but it is not a substitute for institutionalized training. Always remember that hands-on training and experience are the best ways to learn.

Learn Crime Patterns and Mapping

crime patternsIf you are currently a student in justice studies or have aspirations of working in law enforcement then you are probably interested in learning about crime patterns and how they can help with an investigation. Crime patterns are an important thing that members of law enforcement must keep in mind, especially when dealing with violent criminals. By studying geographic areas, sometimes topographically, investigators can make connections and draw various conclusions to help with their overall progress.

I came across an excellent article at the website for the International Association of Crime Analysts that provides tips and information on how to effectively identify crime patterns. This valuable information is provided free of charge by the IACA, and you can view it in its PDF format by visiting http://www.iaca.net/Articles/identifyingcrimepatterns.pdf.

National Crime Statistics From The White House

national crime statisticsKeeping yourself informed of the various crime rates that are constantly changing is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it is good to know which direction crime is going in our nation so that you can stay on your toes.

By this I mean that you can evaluate the different trends that are occurring in terms of crime, and then protect yourself accordingly. If property crimes are rising at a drastic rate, then you may want to consider investing in security equipment for your home. However, it is important that you do not let national crime statistics frighten you. Being paranoid is not going to improve your life in any way, but staying alert and being aware of your surroundings might.

To see some of the national crime statistics for recent years visit www.whitehouse.gov/fsbr/crime.html.

Crime Scene Investigation Articles and Information

crime scene investigationThanks to the various C.S.I. television shows that have been created in recent years, many more people are now interested in forensic science and crime scene investigation. However, if you really want to learn about this line of work then I suggest that you do not let the T.V. series be your teacher. Obviously, attending college courses is a much more legitimate way to learn but in the meantime you can check out some Internet resources.

There are plenty of websites that have articles about crime scene investigation, and it is hard to determine which ones are better than others. I found a website called, "Crime and Clues," which claims to have articles from reliable sources. In addition to having credible authorities, they also have a LOT of information available. Some of the articles here refer to things such as crime scene protection, evidence collection and recovery, scene reconstruction and shooting reenactments.

Check out http://www.crimeandclues.com/crimescene.htm if you have a genuine interest in this line of work. There is a lot of reading available at this website, but I also suggest that you search Google for some other resources. Start educating yourself now so that you can prepare for a higher level of training in the future.

Know Which Of Your Neighbors Have Committed Sex Crimes

sex crimesIt is highly possible that many of you are already aware of this website, but I am going to plug it anyway. The National Sex Offender Registry is an online resource for individuals who want to know who has been convicted of sex crimes in their neighborhood. I personally do not have children so I am not too worried about which of my neighbors are sex offenders. On the other hand, I am sure that there are plenty of mothers and fathers in this world who feel that they must know this kind of information. The honest truth about this website is that there are some registered offenders who are a threat and there are some who are not. Unfortunately, there are plenty of adults who will immediately panic when they find out that they live near an offender. So, before you start to harass one of your neighbors and give them dirty looks, try to control your thoughts and emotions in a mature way.

This website really is interesting, however. To search for offenders in your area, visit www.familywatchdog.us and enter your location information into the provided fields. You may or may not be surprised by what you find out at this website.

Tons of Information About White Collar Crime

white collar crimeI found a GREAT resource on the Internet that will help you learn almost everything there is to know about white collar crime. Plenty of different crimes are placed into this category, including computer fraud, bribery, embezzlement, forgery, medical crime, identity theft, insider trading and much more. These tend to be crimes that are non-violent and usually involve some kind of monetary theft.

This particular website that I found, which is located at www.karisable.com, has plenty of tips and information that can help keep you up-to-date about white collar crime. Karisable.com has articles about vehicular homicide, computer fraud, organized crime and plenty more.

I was also glad to see that this website had a lot of information about historic crimes and cases that have helped set precedents for today. For example, there is some literature about Hamer v. Sidway, which is a historic case involving contract law. This website also provides a link to Amazon.com which has plenty of books about white collar crime that are available for purchase.

I would definitely recommend that you take a look at http://www.karisable.com/crwc.htm when you have a chance. These types of crimes are not uncommon and by learning about the criminals and their specific schemes then you protect yourself from becoming the next victim.
